2022 PELGBA Annual Conference

PELGBA held their Annual Conference on 24th June 2022. This was the first time PELGBA held their Annual Conference in person since 2020. The conference was opened by Stephen Dodd SC, Chair, PELGBA with a keynote address by Mr Frank Clarke SC, former Chief Justice of Ireland on Mediation in environmental and planning disputes. 

The speakers presented on a range of topics varying from general updates on Planning and Environmental Law, height and apartment guidelines, Section 5 determinations, climate change, costs in Judicial Review, strategic litigation against public participation and the future of environmental rule of law.

The Planning, Environmental and Local Government Bar Association (PELGBA) held their Annual Conference on 27th May 2021. This was the first time PELGBA held their Annual Conference online and it received a higher attendance than last year’s conference, which was physically held in the Distillery Building in early 2020.  It was a lively and engaging conference expertly chaired by The Hon. Ms. Justice Nuala Butler and presentations were given by Dermot Flanagan SC, Eamon Galligan SC, Stephen Dodd SC, Tom Flynn BL and Suzanne Murray BL.  The speakers presented on a range of topics varying from planning law enforcement, climate change and environmental law.

The Planning, Environmental and Local Government Bar Association (PELGBA) held their inaugural conference in the DDRC, Distillery Building on Saturday 29th February, chaired by The Hon. Mr Justice Brian Murray, Judge of the Court of Appeal.  Nuala Butler SC opened the conference and discussed reasons for planning decisions.  This was followed by Eamonn Galligan SC speaking on the topic of judicial review, Dermot Flanagan SC discussing recent developments in compulsory purchase law and possible reform and Stephen Dodd SC on recent developments in local authority law: housing, the vacant site levy, rates/valuation and other matters. The afternoon panel consisted of Tom Flynn BL on key recent developments in environmental law and Suzanne Murray BL on recent developments in enforcement and Section 5.
